Oklahoma City Thunder steals Golden State Warriors mascot name Thunder.

The Warriors’ primary logo: That’s Thunder

If you see a muscular, blue action hero with a lightning bolt for a hat stumbling around Oakland and muttering about life’s injustices in the next couple of days, don’t be surprised.

The NBA team in Oklahoma City will get its official nickname on Wednesday, and all indications are that it will be “Thunder.”

That’s right: Thunder.

That decision probably didn’t sit well with the Golden State Warriors. Not to mention the guy who wears the suit.

Why?

Because “Thunder” is the name of the official Warriors team mascot _ NBA-approved, by the way.

Warriors’ secondary logo: The “flying W”

Not only that, the image of Thunder is prominent in the Warriors’ primary logo _ the one with him holding the lightning bolt above the word “Warriors.”

The Warriors _ like all teams _ have a secondary logo, and theirs is called the “flying W,” which is the one with a lightning bolt ripping through the “W,” superimposed on a basketball.

Interestingly, the Warriors use the “flying W” logo more frequently than their primary logo with Thunder.

But that doesn’t just mean you cast him aside, right?

It will be interesting to see how the NBA handles this little issue … if at all. Can it really have a team in one city with the nickname of “Thunder,” and an official NBA mascot for another team named “Thunder?”

The real Thunder: seasoned vet

That doesn’t seem right. Unless there’s some kind of trade brewing.

Let’s put it this way, the Warriors better be getting something out of this. And hopefully it’s not at the expense of the guy in the suit.

But there’s just no way you can have two Thunders.

What happens when Oklahoma City visits Oakland this upcoming season for a game against the Warriors and the public address announcer begins to introduce Thunder?

Who comes out? The team or the guy in the suit?

And will there even be that guy in the suit anymore?

  2. As someone who enjoyed watching the Sonics in the ’90s, I found this whole Oklahoma City deal shady and appalling from the beginning. As a longtime Warriors fan, this news is insulting considering how well our own Thunder theme has been doing (despite so-called “fans” rumbling otherwise). I hope someone in Oakland has the balls to step up to these shenanigans, since no one in Seattle does.

As if there wasn’t already millions of reasons why David Stern needs to be sent away to a hurtful place.

  5. Lol… OMG… YOU GUYS ARE SO SILLY. WHO THE HELL CARES?! IM FROM MICHIGAN BUT I’VE BEEN LIVING IN OKC FOR OVER 7 YRS. I LOVE OKLAHOMA BUT THUNDER SUCKS. SERIOUSLY. SO FOR THE IDIOT TRYING TO MAKE THREATS THRUE THE PC. YOUR A DUMB ASS. LOL GROW UP. ITS BASKETBALL AND WORST… ITS OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER.

  6. i like the name Thunder for the new OKC NBA team and I also like the mascot. He’s a lot cooler than that guy in a lightning suit (or whatever it is) carrying a lightning bolt. Now THAT is corny!!!! GO THUNDER!!!!!

  7. To the chick named Ginger who is insinuating that people from Oklahoma are incompetent (her bad spelling remark). You must be one of those Texas Whinehorns we hear so much about-all mouth and no brains! Pity. By the way, which one are you married to–the Skipper, Professor, or (most likely) Gilligan?

  8. “Cyber gangstaz” make me laugh just as much as your ugly Rainbow colored college looking thunder jerseys! And to the guy talking shit about “Thunder” (and No I don’t mean OKC!) Are you serious dude? Who ever came up with your jerseys and your colors must have been on one! Your shitty jerseys with the word City underneath the word Oklahoma on the front looks like a college jersey! Oh yeah your logo looks like a poor excuse for a soccer team logo! You guys are Thieves! It was enough that you guys stole my Sonics in Illegal collusion between Benette and Stern! but your unoriginal asses then stole my Warriors Mascot “Thunder Bolt’s” name as yours!!!And now we just have to ax our Mascot we’ve hade since ’97??? If Clay wasn’t in bed with Stern u wouldn’t even have a team!!! The whole deal was corrupt and shady and you can all go phuck your selves in your rainbow uniforms! And don’t worry cause Kevin Durant is leaving in 2 years to play for a real original team in a real CIty! And your Oklahoma City Blunder will be moving in a few years when no one is going to the games at shitty ford center or what ever the hell you guys call that dump! And It’a only one Oaktown and that’s where Thunder is! It’s the 415. 510 and 206 u stupid fuckin’ ignorant cyberbanger!
