  1. /i’m guessing you’ve been a hoops fan for about 5 minutes, cause this list is ridiculous in so many ways…

  2. Stephen A. Smith I really admire your show Quite Frankly. Feel free to tell me what’s wrong with my list.

  3. Your list has steve francis being retired by houston, AI being retired by denver and Pau Gasols jersey being hung up by Memphis.

  4. thats whats wrong with it

  5. o and michael jordan on the wizards thats just retarded

  6. Just the quick ones I’ve seen
Allen Iverson?? what did he do for Denver?
    Michael Jordan for the wizards????

Memphis Grizzlies- Pau Gasol???? I think Mike Miller is more deserving

  7. There are too many names on this list, it should be a very special player who gets his number retired or else it is meaningless.

  8. antoine walker? zydrunas ilgauskas? steve francis? bruce bowem? i mean, these guys are barely all-star calibur. in order to get your jersey retired, you either have top have a ridiculously long legacy with one team (like paul pierce with boston, KG with minnesota, and kobe with the lakers) or you have to win championships. how can you even argue that the knicks should retire latrell sprewell? this is garbage

  9. Thanks guys for your opinions. Memphis is a young franchise and Pau Gasol has done so much for them. He’s the franchises first all-star and has taken the team to its first playoffs. He’s the franchises best player ever this is why they should retire his number. He’s like the Magic Johnson for their franchise.

  10. As for Michael Jordan’s jersey being retired by the Wizards nobody is currently wearing that jeresy. The fact that the great MJ wore that once is enough to retire it. Did you guys know that the Miami Heat retired its number #23 for MJ.

  11. I can agree with you on Steve Francis. But AI is a hall of fame player and I see his career similar in the terms of Charles Barkley. Who has his jersey retired by the Sixers and the Suns. You guys just think these players suck because they are currently playing. Remember these players are better than you think and in 10 years people will be talking about them like their legends. For example because MJ is older than Kobe. MJ will forever be better than Kobe because he’s older. Even if Kobe wins six championships MJ will forever be better.

  12. Yes, its true that retired jerseys should be reserved for special players only. But its not all hall of famers its sometimes what that player did for its franchise. For exmaple (Jason Collier, Bobby Phils, Malik Sealy) weren’t hall of famers and got their jerseys retired for dying young. Had they continued playing their jerseys would have never been retired. Avery Johnson for example is not a hall of fame player. Jeff Honrnacek isn’t either. Don Nelson wasn’t either.

  13. I can’t believe that you guys would complain about Pau Gasol? So are you guys telling me that Vince Carter shouldn’t retire his jersey in Toronto? After all, what did Vince do that Pau didn’t?

    -Thanks for the post.

  14. Derek, Zydrunas Ilgauskas do you know how many years he’s been on the Cavs? Antoine Walker’s been on the celtics for a long time too. I can agree with you on Steve Francis and Antonie Walker but you can’t argue that they did have their own eras in terms of being the star on their respective team for many years. Bruce Bowen helped the Spurs win 3 championships. If you say that then why did they retire Jeff Hornacek’s jersey in Utah? Did he win one championship? Latrell Sprewell lead the Knicks as an #8 seed in the NBA finals. I’m actually suprised you guys aren’t complaining about the Washington Wizards (Caron Butler, Jamison) or Suns (Marion).

  15. you can make a case for richard jefferson getting his number retired by the nets. isn’t he like 2nd or something on their all time scoring list?

  16. Players should only get their jerseys retired for a few reasons:
They spent nearly their entire career there.
They were a centerpiece to a championship team, or a major factor for multiple championships (this is where I see Bowen).
Special circumstances, such as an early and tragic death.

Why would Celtics fans want Antoine Walker? He didn’t do anything special for them, they went deep into the playoffs once, and that was really Pierce carrying the team. I do believe Pierce deserves his numbers in the rafters BTW.

  17. Some of your picks are just ludicrous

  18. Greg Oden? really?

  19. Greg Oden will be in the hall of fame once his career is done.

I have a big problem with you puttin alot of these young guys on the list cause you dont even know what they look like on the nba level like Kevin Love for example I really cant stand him I think he sucks. He should have just stayed and finished his four years at UCLA. Mike Beasley and Kevin Love Idont even have to say hands down Love is over rated

  21. you are an idiot

  22. Why?

  23. This are the only current players that should have their jersey # retired.

    1) O’Neal
    2) Kobe Bryant (best ever)
    3) Allen Iverson
    4) Jason Kidd
    5) Tim Duncan
    6) Wade
    7) Lebron James
    8) Chris Paul
    9) Kevin Garnett
    10)Ray Allen
    11)Steve Nash
    12)Dwight Howard
    13) Nowitzki
    14) Paul Pierce
    15)Yao ming

There are amny other that can be added but Have not done much throughout their career or are yet puppies.

Tracy Mcgrady ( has done nothing, he will be in the injury hall of fame for sure)

  24. those were as of now ( if they were to retire today)

  25. I forgot billups for detroit. And possibly P. Gasol.

  26. how does derrick rose get his jersey retired after just getting into the nba?!?!?

  27. My list is NBA players jerseys that should be retired when these players retire. If Derrick Rose plays to his expectations then he should get his jersey retired someday.

  28. no love for ben Wallace in d town how about rodman in chi town???

  29. What would happen when most jerseys become retired?

  30. who the hell said allan houston, sprewell yes, they didnt do starks, forget about allan houston

  31. vince carter, jason kidd, paul pierce, ray allen, and kobe n lebron definately

  32. iverson too
